Regional Health & Safety Advisor – £30,000- £32,000 Company Car (Fuel card for private and work mileage) 30 Days Holiday per annum South Midlands

A client of mine has an exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety professional to join a fast – paced retailer to maintain, improve and advise on all aspects of safety. You will work independently and organise your own diary on a weekly basis. Within your area you will have 150 stores to audit per annum and you will be responsible for building relationships with staff within these stores and help them maintain Health & Safety excellence.

The role will be predominately field based, covering the South Midlands region but with regular travel to our Head Office in East Yorkshire as well as to sites across the country. Reporting into the Head of Health and Safety you will be responsible for working with the Regional, Area and Store Managers to implement the H&S policy and strategy across the company, providing expert advice across all issues. Devising plans to ensure the company exceeds statutory obligations and risk is adequately managed through a proactive H&S culture.

The ideal candidate will be an intrinsically motivated, and can work independently to reach the greatest standards. You will be in regular contact with the Head of Health & Safety therefore strong communications skills are also essential.

Key responsibilities;

Manage and support the creation of practical procedures and safe systems of work
Assist and devise plans to continually improve H&S
To conduct risk assessments, training, accident investigations and site audits (including Distribution) as appropriate.
Promote best practice
Support all levels of management to ensure obligations are met
Ensure adequate Training and Induction throughout the business in liaison with Training & HR
Provide general advice, guidance and counselling
Follow up, liaison and management of requests and visits from authorities such as EHO and Fire Officers.
Liaison with insurance companies to manage risks at store level

Skills required;

H&S experience within a retail environment is essential.
Excellent knowledge of H+S law and statutory requirements.
Good IT skills
NEBOSH certificate is essential and would suit an individual who is seeking to gain further safety experience within a retail environment.
The ability to influence and forge working relationships with Regional and Area Managers is essential as you will be working alongside people across the business to establish best practice and therefore not only is influencing critical but also being able to face and overcome resistance.
The ability to manage their own work load.
