Health & Safety Manager – Engineering – Swindon – £40,000-£47,000 per annum + Benefits

Due to significant growth of the Health, Safety and Environment department, a superb opportunity has arisen to join a world leading automotive manufacturer in Swindon as a HS&E Engineering Manager on a permanent basis. The reorganisation of the Department has resulted in an additional section being created and this role will be the Manager of the new HS&E Engineering section

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading the HS&E Engineering team of 3 Coordinators and introducing and embedding the British Safety Council integrated HS&E process at the plant, to achieve industry leading status.
The introduction of the British Safety Council Integrated 5 Star Award scheme is a significant commitment and requires us to adopt a “best practise” approach to HS&E. This client is responsible for EU application of the Fire Risk evaluation and Explosion and establishing a factory by factory cross verification programme. HS&E to manage site wide equipment safety covering PUWER, DSEAR, Fire, Machinery Safety etc.

Technical Evaluation as member of the TSG (technical safety group) / EWG (Engineering working group) will also be incorporated into this role to centralise expertise into one section and facilitate reorganisation of operations and assurance sections.

Main responsibilities:

Leading the HS&E Engineering team which consists of 3 coordinator roles covering; Permit Assurance, Technical risk management & control (x2) & a business partner function for Engineering areas
Project Leader for introducing and embedding the PUWER (machinery safety) programme on site and across the EU region
Representation of HS&E Department at design and project evaluation stages as part of Technical Safety Group and Engineering Working Groups
Establishing and enforcing HS&E standards with regards to Equipment safety (Mechanical, Electrical, hydraulic, Pneumatic etc…)
Oversee the development and implementation of the technical risk evaluation through in-house risk assessment or 3rd party specialist assessments e.g. DSEAR
Further develop the effectiveness, engagement and value added benefits of the HS&E department to the Engineering functions of the organisation through effective use of the business partner role
Ensuring permit compliance

To be considered for the position of HS&E Engineering Manager you must:

Previous Team management experience and effective leadership skills
Experience of introducing best practise in engineering projects
Applicable technical safety qualification (machinery Safety / PUWER) is essential
Applicable Engineering Qualification (Mechanical/ Electrical)
Effective Planning and organisational skills
Demonstrable communication skills with all levels
Broad Understanding of HS&E technical Legislation
NEBOSH (Certificate level) in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
Background in Health, Safety and Environment
