Flood Risk Manager 6 week contract – £17.90 Per hour PAYE Brighton
A client of mine is looking for Flood Risk Manager on a temporary basis to deliver statutory flood management duties outlined in the Flood and Water Management Act (2010) and Flood Risk Regulations (2009). To work effectively with strategic flood partners.
The selected candidate will be required to work independently, requiring long periods of concentration. Working to deadlines and preparing Committee reports will be a key requirement. The job will involve good communication with Risk Management Authorities (RMAs), anxious residents and Council Members.
The role is varied, and includes but is not limited to:
Responding to major planning applications with regard to sustainable drainage. As the LLFA, we have a responsibility as a statutory consultee to respond to these consultations
Project management of a number of current schemes across the city
Strategic Flood Risk Assessment Review
Supplementary Planning Document for Sustainable Drainage
Flood Investigations
Advise Council Members through the writing of briefings and attendance at committee meetings
Participation in groups such as
Chalk Asset Management Plan (CHAMP)
Southern Regional Flood and Coastal Committee
The Water Plan
Shaping Climate Change Adaptive Places (SCAPE)
South East 7 group
Local Authority SuDS Officers Organisation (LASOO)
Liaise with internal partners across the Council such as Highways, Biosphere, Planning, Parks and City Clean
Liaise with external partners such as the Environment Agency, Southern Water, South Down National Park and other Risk Management Authorities
Person Specification
Educated to NVQ 4 / degree standard or equivalent
Qualification in relevant subject Geography, Flood Risk Management, Civil
Engineering Professionally qualified with a relevant professional body advisable but not essential.
Relevant experience of working in the flood risk area / related professional field, with evidence

Keeping abreast and interpretation of flooding legislation and local authority responsibilities
Keeping projects to programme and within budget.
Obtaining reasonable quotes from consultants and managing their work.
Managing a diverse range of drainage and flooding issues.
Reacting to complaints from the public and members.
